The Original Sample

Based on a letterset taken from a scan of Type & Design Devices compiled by Ron Yablon (acquired via The Type Heritage Project), this curious blackletter alphabet can’t be traced to an origin.

Without a typeface name, connected foundry, complete glyphset, or further history, I upscaled the singular reference scan and rebuilt the typeface from scratch. Without losing the original material, I standardized the curves and elements to draw two optical sizes.

Using the bones of the original alphabet, I created a full number set, punctuation, symbols, and non-ornamental alphabet variation.

The completed typeface is named Celestial Gothic in reference to the star elements and whimsical style.
